Closing a house in El Pinar.
I have stared out my window looking across the vast ocean, feeling isolated. Fortunately, I have prayer and a Heavenly Father that listens to my pleading heart.
This week has been definitely a roller coaster of emotions. My mom went into the doctor for what she thought would be something minor. Instead, it was major. She has lymphoma cancer and starts chemo treatments on June 4th. None of us could have thought cancer. It doesn't run in the family at least until now. The members and missionaries though have been wonderful in offering their prayers in her behalf. Our family is having a special fast for her Sunday May 31st. Still, my heart aches and tears have come. I feel so unable to help being so far away. I was ready to come home to help but I guess Heavenly Father still needs us here because he opened up a way for Dana (my sister) to leave her busy schedule in Oregon and come and stay with Mom for as long as necessary. Rhonda is still working so it makes it hard for her to care for Mom 24-7. Mom has always been healthy and hardly knows what Advil is. Totally not prepared for this turn of events!
On the cheerier side, Candiss and Tara are both having girls in October!

We were invited to be the guest speakers and talk about our experiences with family history. The ward was Gianola which is in Melo, a 4-5 hour drive. I worked on my 20 minute talk all week.
I used a powerpoint slide to show pictures of my topic while I read my talk to them in Spanish. I was hopeful that they would be watching the screen more than me and my so-so spanish. We had a total of 45 minutes so I started and Mike wrapped it up.
I started by showing this video: La gallinita roja
I would like to now share with you through testimony of
others and my own how serving our ancestors brings joy and immeasurable
blessings to all.
I then showed them familysearch.org and focused on indexing. I showed them the video on what indexing is all about and then showed them that Uruguayan Records need alot more help.
We should make this number equal to that number. We have alot of indexing to do.
(Indexed Records number should match Record Images)
This is how we do indexing but now I am going to share the blessings.
The following is my powerpoint presentation.
maravillosa.
This story was shared by a
missionary that works with FamilySearch Indexing Support.
I have had a
most wonderful experience.
Un caballero llamado FamilySearch Indexación y
me habló. "Hermana Thomas, debo decirle que tenía un...
A gentleman called Indexing Support and talked
to me. He started out by saying first, “Sister Thomas, I must tell you I had a...
..ataque cerebral el primero de agosto." Por
supuesto le dije que lo sentía. Él dijo: “Antes de mi accidente,
..stroke the first of August.” Of course I told him I was sorry. He said, "Before my accident,
mucho...
I worked with my hands. I carved and I also did alot of ...
...indexing. After my stroke the doctors told me that I would
not be able...
...de usar mis manos y mis dedos
de esa manera otra vez. Anoche mi esposa me llevó a
la cama en mi..
...to use my hand and fingers in that way
again. Last night I had my wife...
...silla deruedas y a arrodillárme a orar.
...wheel my chair over to the bed and she helped me to pray.
I told the Lord I could handle not being able to
carve, but would he please just allow me to index again so I could help other
people find their ancestors.”
(En ese momento yo estaba
llorando y preguntándome a mi mismo que iba a suceder.)
Él dijo: "Le he llamado
(By this time I was crying
and wondering what was going to happen.) He said, “I called you before
I went to the computer because I need you to tell me step by step what to do
because I don’t think I remember. I want you to help me."
a decir?
OK, now I was holding my
breath because I thought, “What if he cannot do it? What am I going to say?” The next sound I heard was his crying and telling his
wife:
"Mira!, mis dedos se
mueven. Mira!"
“See, my fingers are moving.
Look!”
escribir. Podía oír las llaves.
I could hear her sobbing; so
was I, by the way. He could hardly talk but he said, “OK, now what do I do
first?”
He downloaded the indexing
program and it went in so smooth it almost seemed like it was already
there. He downloaded a batch and started
typing. I could hear the keys.
Entonces él dijo:
"Gracias, Padre, por responder a mi oración, y por permitirme hacer
esto."
Entonces él me dijo:
"Gracias, Hermana Thomas."
Le dije, "Gracias por
permitirme oír la respuesta de oración."
He then said, “Thank you,
Father, for answering my prayer, and allowing me to do this.”
He then said, “Thank you,
Sister Thomas.”
I told him, “Thank you for
allowing me to hear a prayer being answered.”
ONE person indexing ONE
name will help make ONE eternal round of
celestial blessings!
Ahora,
vamos a hablar acerca de el espíritu
de Elías.
Now we are going to talk about the Spirit of Elijah.
What is the Spirit of Elijah?
Elder Bednar said, "The spirit of Elijah is "a manifestation of the Holy Ghost bearing witness of the divine nature of the family."
The Spirit of Elijah has been part of my life since I was 17 years old.
I cannot count the blessings this special Spirit brings to my life.
Comencé con una máquina de
escribir
I started with a typewriter
y ahora puedo usar el
internet. Es mucho mas facil.
and now I can use the internet. It is so much easier.
In my life I have tried to always bring the
spirit of Elijah into our family life. Sometimes it was one hour per week.
Other times I could give more time. When we had 9 children we needed all the
help we could find. We needed the
promised blessings of their hearts turning to us and our children.
Are not the angels that
protect our families our very own grandparents and family members who are now
on the other side? It is now much easier to find
the spirit of Elijah.

¿ Somos participantes?
Elder Bednar dice que debemos ser participantes.
Elder Bednar dice que debemos ser participantes.
The Lord's work is accelerating here and we are participants but the work is accelerating on the other side of the veil also, in the spirit world. Are we participants? Elder Bednar has said we should be participants.
I want to share this special
experience and of course, words will never be adequate to express the feelings
of my soul at the time the following event happened.
ochocientos sesenta (1860).
Thomas Bennett Helm is my
pioneer ancestor who joined the church in England and immigrated to Utah in the
1860’s.
Él había escrito que su padre
Thomas nació en mil ochocientos y uno (1801). Él no sabía nada más. No conocía
He had written that his father was Thomas born in 1801. He did not know anything else. He did not know his grandfather. My mother has been working on this grandfather most of her life. I joined the search about 20 years ago. We have searched microfilm records, temple records, online records and anything else we could think of. All of this seemed to bring no success. When we took our trip with my parents to England in 2007, we went to Preston and did some research. We did find Thomas’ death record in the Lancashire library and found that he died in a place for paupers without family. We did not find his birth record that would prove his parents.
Debido
Because of indexed records online a few years ago ...
...me
Me
...I found a second marriage record for Thomas after
his first wife and last child died. That
marriage record that someone had indexed stated that his father’s name was Lawrence
Helm, a farmer.
Thank you, thank you to
whoever indexed that marriage record! After
40 years, we finally at least have a name.
Going forward in time…to June 2009.
I decided to look again and
find out if there were any new church records on microfilm. There were!
Junio mil setecientos cincuenta y ocho (1758) encontré Lawrence Helmen
Ahora,
me estoy haciendo esperánzador.
tiempo y empezar a agosto. Nada.
septiembre.
I started the film and looked for years a little before Thomas was born in hopes of finding a marriage record of Lawrence. On June 3, 1758 I found Lawrence Helmen of Preston Parish
and Isabel Wilding of this parish.
PRESTON PARISH! That is where
Thomas Bennett had said his father was from!
Now, I am getting
hopeful. Not hugely, because we have
been doing this search for years. I know
that his father, Thomas was born August 21, 1801. I scroll through the film to this time period
and start with August. Nothing. I keep going because this is a christening
record and children were christened sometimes months later. September nothing.
pero
en Octubre viente cinco (25) Thomas a Lawrence
e Isabel.
October….. 25th….Thomas to Lawrence and Isabel. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and more importantly feeling. THIS IS IT! THIS IS RIGHT! I wanted to shout this to the whole library!
Lo
encontré! Lo encontré! Después de más de cincuenta (50) años!
I found it! I found it! After 50+ years!
Jesucristo:...
I called my mother from a quiet room in the library and we cried together.
As I was walking slowly to my car and contemplating this wonderful blessing, tears came again and I felt so strongly that my Dad who died in Dec of 2008, had been a great part of this find. He knows how long his wife has worked on trying to find Thomas and his family.
I know life continues. In what manner I do not know. But our loved ones are there and working on the same goal as our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ:
... to bring to pass the immortality and eternal
life of man.
This is my testimony.
Recuerde
que la gallinita roja?
Remember the little red hen?
Once upon a time, there was a
woman who lived on a beautiful planet named earth. She had family that lived
close to her. Her Uncle , Grandpa and Cousin.
"Yo
no", dijo su tío.
"Yo
no," dijo su abuelo.
"Yo
no", dijo su prima.
"Entonces
lo haré", dijo la mujer.
The woman asked her family, "Who will help me do FamilySearch Indexing?"
"Not I," said the Uncle.
"Not I," said the Grandpa.
"Not I," said theCousin.
"Not I," said the Grandpa.
"Not I," said theCousin.
"Then I will," said the woman.
Entonces
FamilySearch?"
"Yo
no"
"Yo
no"
"Yo
no"
"Entonces
lo hare.”
The woman then asked her family, "Who will help me use the photos FamilySearch?"
"Not I,"
"Not I,"
"Not I,"
"Not I,"
"Not I,"
"Then I will," said woman. So the woman used FamilySearch all by herself.
antepasados?"
"Yo
no"
"Yo
no"
"Yo
no"
"Entonces
lo hare.”
The woman asked her family,
"Who will help me find our ancestors?"
"Not I,"
"Not I,"
"Not I,"
"Not I,"
"Not I,"
"Then I will," said
the woman.
"Yo
no"
"Yo
no".
"Yo
no"
"Entonces
lo hare.”
The tired but happy woman asked her family, "Who will help me do our ancestors temple work?"
"Not I,"
"Not I,".
"Not I,"
"Not I,".
"Not I,"
"Then I will," said the woman.
When the temple work was complete, the tired but joyful woman asked her family,
"Who will be ready
for the great day of the Lord?”
"I will," said her aunt.
"I will," said her grandpa.
"I will," said her cousin.
"I will," said her cousin.
Pero la mujer les leyó este pasaje:
Doctrina y Convenios ciento veintiocho (128):versiculo veinticuatro (24):
But the woman read to them
this scripture:
D&C 128:24 “...Let us, therefore, as
a church and a people, and as Latter-day Saints, offer unto the Lord an
offering in righteousness; and let us present in his holy temple, when it is
finished, a book containing the records of our dead, which shall be worthy of all acceptation.”
You have no
book and you have little time! And so now I ask, “Who will help me in redeeming
the dead?”
"Lo haré", dijo el tío.
"Lo haré", dijo el abuelo.
"Lo haré", dijo el primo.
"I will," said
Uncle.
"I will," said Grandpa.
"I will," said the Cousin.
"I will," said the Cousin.
That we all may say, “I
WILL!” is my hope and prayer, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
