Heavenly Father was a BIG Part of This Day

Saturday, September 6, 2014

We stayed the night in Melo and it rained hard off and on all night.  When we got up this morning, it was still raining.  It rained all morning and the bishop from Rio Branco called and canceled the event, An hour later he changed his mind and it was on again.  The sisters we were taking with us were so sweet to be so flexible.  Rio Branco is about an hour and a half from Melo.  There are no sisters serving in Rio Branco so we needed the sisters from Melo to assist us.
Eldon was being baptized today.  When Candiss asked him who he wanted to give the talk on the Holy Ghost he said he really wanted Grandpa Mike.  Candiss got approval from her Bishop to have Mike give that talk using facetime.  We had it all figured out that if we could leave early enough we could be in Rio Branco and be able to use the chapel as a background for his talk.  Because of all the changes, we had stayed too long in Melo and could not get to Rio Branco in time.  As it turned out, we had a van load of lovely sisters and when Candiss Facetimed us we stopped along side of the road somewhere out in the country of Uruguay. The sisters were our background. The following is what Candiss posted on Facebook:
"My wonderful Eldon was baptized today. It was a great ceremony. My dad,Michael Burnett gave the talk on the Holy Ghost via FaceTime from the side of the road in Uruguay. Him and Deb Stephens Burnett were on their way to an Open House with a van full of sister missionaries. It was a wonderful experience. "
My reply:

" It was a wonderful event. The Hermanas just loved it too. They were so kind to me giving hugs as tears always come when I dwell too long on how much I miss my family. We love the mission though. Any one that can go should go. You are desperately needed!"
On to Rio Branco we went and the sun was shining!

At 4pm the sun was still shining as well as all the members of this small ward. The  building was very clean and all their stands were well prepared. It started raining again at 6:30 and an elder offered a prayer asking for help. At 6:35 we had one person come in and another one at 8pm. Hmm?  Who is in control here?  Miracles well deserved for this small ward.  There is a great spirit with this ward.

I was quite touched by this display I saw in the Relief Society room.
The title is Pioneras de Nuestras Dias or Pioneers of Our Days.
They really caught the spirit and vision of our talk last Sunday.

These two are brother and sister. They are the children of the Bishop and his wife.
He is wearing his Dad's missionary tag.  He grabbed pass along cards from the foyer
and went out the front gates to deliver them.

The youngest missionary!

A special needs son of the brother who is always smiling!
Our last visitor of the evening.

These wonderful missionaries went out into the
neighborhood in the rain
to invite people to this capilla abierta.

Heavenly Father was part of this day.  Only a handful of people here in Uruguay or even the world recognized it as such.  I know He knows us personally and loves us individually. Jesus Christ is his only begotten Son and because of Him, I have an opportunity to become a happier and better person through this mortal experience and other experiences yet to be.

  1. The Lord was truly with us this day! Even though I forgot my speakers to connect to the phone for the Facetime talk everyone was still able to hear it loud and clear. Even Kammi who was at the piano on the other side of the room. <3
