Well deserved P-Day although I cooked and baked most of the day.

Off to Chuy, (border of Brazil) to help the Elder's move.
Taking special care of his birthday cake! |
So, we loaded up the trailer and van with what we could. Finally at 3 pm we had the keys for the new apartment. We were a little miffed that the things that were supposedly fixed in the apartment, were not. But, the elders had to move because they found out that someone had illegally rented government housing to them and they were being evicted.
Mike also had a "walking policeman" threaten to take his license away! (He doens't have a Uruguayan license to take away, but he didn't mention that). Seems that the first time, he didn't stop for a pedestrian. NO ONE ever stops for pedestrians anywhere else! We have tried to be polite and stop for them, only to get honked at and sometimes the pedestrian seems confused that we did stop for them and won't walk. Anyways, I guess in Chuy, you stop for pedestrians.
The second encounter was when Mike turned the wrong way up a one way street. He did notice it right away, but pulling a trailer makes it more difficult to turn around quickly. (By the way, these are very quiet streets). As he was doing so, up came the walking policeman and he scolded Mike for not knowing how to drive and asked him, "Did you not see the one way arrow?" Now, that's classic. Half the time, there are no markings and if he had seen it, he would not have turned the wrong way! AHHHHHH! Driving in Uruguay!!! Markings will sometimes be a small arrow on the corner building. Sometimes they are on a post. Sometimes, they are on the curb and sometimes, not at all! And good luck even seeing them at night.
For the rest of the move, we avoided where the walking policeman might have been stationed just to make sure we could get back to Montevideo tomorrow.
The night before we left, I made all the fixings for tacos. I cooked the taco shells ahead of time too so that all we had to do was plug in their microwave and heat things up. It worked perfectly, so we finally ate dinner at about 8 pm and we were all starved! I also baked cookies for an easy dessert. It is hard to maintain good weight with all the baking and cooking I do. Oh, well. I love helping and feeding these wonderful missionaries. They deserve the best that I can give,
